Background

The Address Street and Information Directory (ASTRID) pilot is in response to feedback received from OS’ s public sector customers, who indicated the benefits in establishing an online searchable directory and register for UPRN and USRN data. In alignment with the Government Digital Service (GDS) mandate issued in July 2020, the directory will raise awareness and visibility of UPRN and USRN attributed data within the public sector.

The first iteration of the searchable library comprises of the following data fields;

• Dataset attributed to UPRN’s and USRN’s e.g. Energy Performance Certificates, Air Quality etc
• Dataset owner/custodian
• Details of how to obtain dataset
• Update cycle of data
• Functionality to request datasets for inclusion if not present.

Datasets already benefitting from the UPRN and other OSID’s will be identified and sign-posted via a centralised directory. Creating a single location for users to find UPRN and USRN linked datasets.

Purpose

1. Increase awareness of datasets with associated OS unique identifiers
2. Provide a single place for PSGA members to easily source information on where to access location data
3. Encourage public-sector data sharing by improving access to location data.
 4. Help identify gaps in attribution across government
 5. Unlock opportunities for use and adoption of the UPRN

Phase 2

The next phase of the pilot will continue to assess the platform’s performance, gather sector-specific user requirements, and further develop ASTRID’s offerings for the PSGA sector.

PSGA customers will have the opportunity to use the platform, submit entries, request the inclusion of datasets not currently listed, and provide feedback through forums. Phase two is scheduled to begin in Autumn 2025, with participants receiving access to the updated ASTRID platform. OS will host online webinars and workshops to collect feedback from participants regarding ASTRID’s proposition, usability, and practicality.
